Slide Presentation by Dr. Don Messersmith
Don Messersmith is a retired professor of Entomology and Ornithology and leader of exotic nature treks to every continent, most recently to China and Brazil. He will leads us though the history of Hostelling as the movement started in 1912 Germany, became an international movement, spread to the US and then during WWII took root in Washington DC. Visit those moments in history and meet the people, especially of our area, who had the vision to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people though hostelling!
Formerly president of Potomac Area Council (PAC), Don began hostelling when John D. Rockefeller was honorary President of American Youth Hostels. Don's fifty years of hostelling and travel on every continent, including bringing home a hostelling wife tells the story, with slides, of hostelling and travel in a manner that can not be beat! Don’t miss this unique look at travel, hostelling, and DC history
